REDUCES MAINTENANCE COSTS BY 20%

5 WAYS PLANNING REDUCES MAINTENANCE COSTS BY 20%

How Our Expert Support Ensures Equipment Reliability

Equipment issues can be unpredictable, costly, and frustrating for operations teams. When a plant makes the decision to shut down for a turnaround, it is a huge financial commitment that requires preparation and timing of prevalent market and equipment conditions. To help ease these challenges, MHI Compressor International recommends allocating resources toward preventative maintenance tactics to reduce surging costs during turnarounds by considering the following suggestions ...

Field Services
1

DETAILED PROCEDURE PLANNING

Detailed procedure planning defines a step-by-step approach for the field service team to allow costs to be anticipated and the equipment life to be extended with minimal downtime. This service offers inspection points between project milestones to document a complete overhaul manual for any type of repair, helping the end user easily locate engineering drawings, tools and equipment required to perform that particular operation. Our team of experts will setup overhaul rehearsals using our full size turbine and compressors to ensure timely project execution. MHI Compressor International (MCO-I) builds the detailed planning procedures before the outage and updates during execution to hand over to the customer after the overhaul. The procedure then becomes a tool to identify equipment refinements ahead of the next scheduled overhaul, inherently bolstering quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

2

EFFECTIVELY MANAGING PERSONNEL

It’s important to put a contingency plan in place that will cover your needs for emergency support. Consider conveying the site requirements to get into the plant, determining crew size and a cohort of pre-selected Technical Field Advisor (TFA) support. MHI Compressor International can pre-select individuals with the necessary expertise and HSE requirements to be present on site, who are familiar with the equipment requirements. This type of approach saves you from days of unnecessary admin, new user on boarding, training and lost production time.

3

CUSTOMIZED IN-HOUSE TRAINING

Operations personnel on new installations should ideally undergo training six months in advance, so that they build familiarity with the equipment and site operations. Considering most emergencies result from unexpected equipment failure, knowledge and understanding of the equipment is power. MHI Compressor International offers onsite training before equipment is delivered via the local Pearland Works training center to ensure efficient installation.

4

ORGANIZED ASSET MANAGEMENT

Don’t stress over added labor costs and lost production time by being unorganized with your special tools. Make sure you are prepared with kitting boxes on site for both special tools and spare parts in pre-execution or pre-outage planning. Usually, if specialized tools go missing during a turnaround, they need to be re-manufactured. Any unexpected delays during an overhaul can be costly, impacting the projects bottom line. Our "kitting service" makes sure all special tooling and spare parts are inventoried ahead of time, and added in kit boxes when the equipment is initially purchased. This way, you can see all components, complete with tag numbers and locations to easily restock inventory for a quicker turnaround on tools.

5

TAILORED ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS

Sometimes the best tools are created by listening and learning from end user’s.  MHI Compressor partnered with a major petrochemical producer to reduce turnaround time and boost cost savings by creating a tool that allows the lifting of the rotor, seal holder, dry gas seals (DGS), and bearings of horizontally split compressors in one single lift, aptly named the One-Rotor Lifting Tool™. The removed rotor can be shipped straight to MHI Compressor Pearland Works facility for inspection and repair, while the new rotor assembly is loaded into the casing in one lift, saving substantial time in a turnaround schedule.
