Amid growing global demand for both securing stable energy supply and reducing environmental impact, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is actively promoting the Energy Transition grounded in reality.
In our Gas & Steam Power Systems business, we provide a wide range of solutions, including gas turbines that have a leading global market share based on the world’s highest level of efficiency, reliability, and future adaptability such as conversion to hydrogen-firing, as well as modification of existing facilities, for example boilers to enable biomass and ammonia co-firing.
In our Nuclear Power Systems business, we are working on the restart of existing plants and the maintenance work for stable and safe operations after restarting, and supporting the work towards a fuel cycle facility’s completion. We are also engaged in the development of the Advanced Light Water Reactor with the world’s highest standard of safety, as well as fast reactors and high-temperature gas-cooled reactors that can meet society’s diversifying needs.
In addition, through our Aero Engines business with high fuel efficiency and low NOx emissions, our Marine Machinery business that responds to global trends for energy-saving and retrofitting for fuel conversion towards decarbonization, our Compressor business that has an extensive track record with oil & gas and petrochemical plants and is addressing new demand related to CCS and hydrogen, and our Wind Power Systems business, we help to provide stability in infrastructure with both our products and services.

Plants & Infrastructure

Responding to growing demand for carbon-neutral initiatives and the needs for efficiency, automation and manpower-saving through digital transformation (DX), MHI is developing a diverse range of products and expanding its business to address environmental challenges and social needs.
In our Metals Machinery business, we are expanding our product lineup to meet a wide range of customer needs by developing distinctive technologies, including the hydrogen-based direct reduction of iron ore that will make green steel a reality towards decarbonization of the steel industry. In our Machinery Systems business, we are focusing on mobility and testing equipment to support the development of autonomous driving technology and infrastructure, while we are developing industrial solutions to accelerate manpower-saving and automation and drive expansion of after-sales services using DX. In our Engineering business, our focuses include transportation systems contributing to regional economic growth and enhanced convenience for people, where we are enhancing system implementation and O&M services. We are also promoting initiatives for clean fuels and high-performance chemicals in addition to conventional plants such as fertilizers, in chemical plants. In our Commercial Ships business, we are working on LNG fuel supply systems and handling systems for ammonia fuel and liquefied CO₂, and building environmentally friendly vessels. Our Environmental Systems business offers highly efficient waste-to-energy technology utilizing steam generated during waste incineration for power generation. We are also developing other technologies such as CCU (Caron dioxide Capture and Utilization), and methane fermentation at waste incineration facilities. In our CO₂ Capture Systems business, we are further expanding partnerships globally to build a CCUS (Carbon dioxide Capture, Utilization and Storage) value chain while enhancing our own CO₂ capture technologies and products, to contribute to decarbonization in various industrial fields.

Logistics, Thermal & Drive Systems

Given the accelerating move towards low-carbon and decarbonized society and the expected expansion of the market for energy efficient and electrified products, MHI offers a wide range of products and solutions to support social infrastructures, and comfortable and convenient lives of people.

In our Material Handling systems business, we have started practical operation of system for loading trucks using unmanned forklifts, or AGF (Automated Guided Forklift), which will help reduce the time that trucks spend at facilities. We provide solutions to address the issues in material handling and logistics industry. In our Thermal Systems (Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Systems) business which provides comfortable spaces with energy-efficiency, we are responding to the expanding market demand by introducing new heat pump water heaters amid the growing need for decarbonization; and in automotive air conditioners, we are committed to meeting the needs of our customers, offering a lineup of large-capacity, high voltage electric compressors responding to the growing market for electrified vehicles. In our Engine business which powers various types of machinery, we are developing and introducing hydrogen engines that achieves zero CO₂ emissions to realize a carbon-neutral society. Also in our Turbocharger business which responds to the diversifying array of automobile powertrains, we are leveraging our rotator technologies to develop electric compressors for fuel cell systems to address the transition to zero-emission vehicles, boosting the overall efficiency of the fuel cell system.

Aircraft, Defense & Space

MHI is engaged in country-level projects in the fields of commercial aviation, defense, and aerospace, contributing to the safety and security of people around the world .
In our Commercial Aviation business, we have the world-class scope of operations and advanced technologies as a partner of international joint development and production, supplying the main components of commercial aircraft such as main wings and fuselages to the world's leading aircraft manufacturers. And with our aftermarket business, we will further improve the productivity of our existing operations, as well as expand business scale and improve profitability by capturing demand for services for other aircraft models. We will keep enhancing our highly reliable technologies as a company that supports the core of aircraft fleet operation by airlines, to provide comfortable air travel to people all over the world.
In our Defense business, we are involved in the development, production, and operational support for many kinds of defense equipment based on requests from the government. We continue to support the safety and security of society as a leader in the field by responding to needs such as significant enhancement of standoff defense capabilities and unmanned asset defense capabilities, performance enhancements of existing equipment and expansion of peripheral fields.
And through our Space business, we have played a key role in manufacturing of launch vehicles since the early days of Japan's space program. We are one of the few companies in the world that can handle all phases from launch vehicle manufacturing to launching. We have successfully completed the test flights of H3 rocket, a next generation launch vehicle manufactured in Japan. We will continue working together with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)
to ensure the successful completion of the H3’s development.
