Tokyo, October 31, 2012 - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), with the support of Sumitomo Corporation, has won a tender from Malaysia's Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), for the design and engineering, procurement and installation of Track Works related to the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) project being constructed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The package, worth 22 billion Yen, is for the Sg Buloh - Kajang (SBK) Line, the first of three lines of the KVMRT project.

This is the first railway project for MHI in Malaysia, which is seeking to alleviate traffic congestion in the capital city. The SBK Line is expected to be fully operational by July 2017. The two other lines are expected to be fully completed by 2020, with the Malaysian government currently evaluating optimal routes for the lines.

To date MHI has delivered large-scale railway system projects to Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan as well as Dubai Municipality as a system integrator. MHI believes that its capability of project implementation and technological expertise, proven through these track records, were highly evaluated by the customer and contributed to the latest award.

On the strength of the KVMRT order going forward, MHI aims to further boost its aggressive marketing activities for railway systems in Asia region as growing market and worldwide.
