Press Information
Tokyo, February 14, 2014 - Effective April 1, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Corporation, a group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), will increase the fee charged for recycling the company's residential air conditioners. The recycling fee applied to home air conditioners is one of a number of charges levied in Japan in order to recycle specified types of discarded home appliances, based on the country's Home Appliance Recycling Law. The upward revision will be made to reflect the increase in the consumption tax rate scheduled to go into effect on April 1.
The new fee will apply in either of the following two cases: 1) when the issue date of the recycling coupon (i.e. the date when the air conditioner is received from the customer) is not earlier than March 31, 2014 and the date when the item is to be handed over to the specified recycling exchange is April 1, 2014 or later; 2) when the issue date of the recycling coupon is earlier than March 31, 2014 and the date when the item is to be handed over to the specified recycling exchange is May 1, 2014 or later.
As a transitional measure, the old fee will apply in the following case: when the issue date of the recycling coupon is earlier than March 31, 2014 and the date when the item is to be handed over to the specified recycling exchange is, at latest, April 30, 2014.

The above fee is imposed per unit of air conditioner on a uniform basis nationwide. Additional charges are required for collection and transport by retail operators, municipal agencies, etc.
