Fair of Fukushima Products Held at the Head Office to Support Recovery Efforts after the Great East Japan Earthquake Disaster
On September 18 (Fri), a fair featuring products from Fukushima took place at MHI’s Head Office building in Shinagawa. The event, targeted at Company employees, was organized as part of MHI’s commitment to support recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake in Fukushima, a prefecture still vulnerable to unwarranted allegations of harmful effects from the disaster at the Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
The sale of Fukushima products was conducted with cooperation from MIDETTE, an "antenna shop" located in Tokyo’s Nihombashi district that sells products from Fukushima Prefecture. Among the many locally produced offerings on sale were rice, sake, fruit, vegetables and sweets, as well as a variety of local crafts.
Despite time limitations – sales operations being confined to the lunch break and after regular work hours – a large number of employees, and even Chairman Omiya, visited the fair and purchased the attractive merchandise on offer. Many products sold out before the end of the day, and the overall sales target was surpassed by a wide margin.
Four and a half years have now passed since the earthquake and tsunami disaster, and many people continue to suffer its consequences. To support the affected regions, MHI will continue to support recovery efforts in a variety of ways.
