MHI Group Employees and Family Members Serve as Volunteers at Shiki Theatre Company's 2016 "Theater of the Heart" Performances in Iwaki

Most recently, on January 16 six employees and their family members provided operational assistance at morning and afternoon performances of Shiki Theatre Company's original musical "The Prince and the Pauper" in Iwaki City, Fukushima. Prior to each performance they ushered the guests to their seats. A total of 3,130 sixth-graders from 60 schools within Iwaki City were invited. The performance invoked a feeling of unity, and the children all enjoyed singing along and engaging in dialog with the performers.

The participating volunteers spoke enthusiastically of the day's experience. "The Iwaki City Board of Education wanted to develop kindness and consideration in the children through theater, and I wanted to cooperate not only to rebuild after the earthquake but also to broaden the bonds between the minds of people." "I was interested in social contribution and volunteering, but there were no opportunities. I had a valuable experience with this opportunity."

Iwaki City and the Board of Education expressed their gratitude to MHI for their cooperation every year after the Great East Japan Earthquake through volunteer participation at the Iwaki performances where there is a lack of human resources. It will soon be seven years since the earthquake, but the MHI Group is strongly committed to continue actively supporting children of the next generation through activities of these kinds.
