On March 17 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engine & Turbocharger, Ltd. (MHIET), jointly with the Fukushima Date City Rugby Football Association, hosted the "1st Date City Tag Rugby Festival" with participation of members of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Sagamihara DynaBoars-the professional rugby team supported by MHIET.
In recent years the DynaBoars have steadily deepened ties of friendship with the city of Date through an ongoing program of activities in support of recovery of the Fukushima area from the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami disaster of 2011. The latest event, the first of its kind, attracted the participation of approximately 120 elementary and junior high school students from throughout Fukushima Prefecture. Current Top League players taught the children how to throw a rugby ball and the rules of tag rugby. After that, the students were divided by school year and took part in actual games. The day brought lots of fun and excitement.
Through rugby, the DynaBoars hope to convey to children how much enjoyment can be derived from sports, while also instilling in them a spirit of cooperation with their peers.
Going forward, MHI Group will continue to promote good communication with people living near its plants and other facilities as a way of deepening ties with its local communities and making local contributions.
