MOL Comfort Containership Incident Update (No.3)

The following is a further update of MHI's response to the incident involving the MOL Comfort containership operated by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) in the Indian Ocean on June 17.

<Status of MHI's Response>
As announced earlier, MHI has already begun working with MOL to investigate the cause of the incident, but to date these investigations have not been able to point to any plausible cause. In order to ascertain the circumstances under which the incident occurred, the state of damage to the vessel's hull, and other matters relating to the incident, two MHI engineers were dispatched to the scene and are now onboard one of the tugboats sent by MOL to aid the vessel.
MHI, in collaboration with MOL and Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK), is also preparing to implement safety inspections as early as possible on the six sister vessels that are currently in operation.

MHI will continue to work closely with MOL to investigate and determine the cause of the incident and to devise a strategy plan for dealing with the vessel's current situation.
