Concerning Media Reports Circulated on November 23

On Saturday, November 23, 2013 news media reports circulated concerning plans to construct a new coal-fired power generation plant in Fukushima Prefecture, in which it was stated that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) is to be among the investors in that project. MHI has not issued any announcements to that effect; nor has the company made any decision on this matter as of this date.

MHI is presently pursuing the development of integrated coal gasification combined cycle (IGCC) and other new technologies from perspectives including environmental compatibility, energy security and economic merit. Going forward the company aims to apply the newest technologies to respond to a variety of energy needs.
