Ammonia fuel handling system
- The Mitsubishi Ammonia Supply and Safety System (MAmmoSS ®) consists of an Ammonia Fuel Supply System (AFSS) and an Ammonia Gas Abatement System (AGAS).
System configuration
- MAmmoSS ® consists of HP AFSS, which supplies ammonia liquid to diesel-cycle DF engines; LP AFSS, which supplies ammonia vapor to Otto-cycle DF engines; and AGAS, which abates excess ammonia from ammonia fuel engines to a concentration that can be released into the atmosphere. The design and engineering of inter-module piping in the Fuel Preparation Room can also be supervised by MSB.
Features of MAmmoSS ®
- MAmmoSS® is modularized for each subsystem and is unique in that it can provide an optimal module configuration as a package for onboard plants consisting of multiple ammonia-fueled engines and boilers. It has excellent maintainability by allowing maintenance from around the module, and by making it a block-divided module, it allows customers to expand availability of arrange according to their desired space.
About Ammonia Fuel Supply System (AFSS)
- AFSS:Ammonia Fuel Supply System
- AFSS adjusts the temperature and pressure to a level that can be used by ammonia fuel consuming equipment and supplies it to the engine. AFSS can be used in various temperature and pressure ranges. HP AFSS (High Pressure AFSS) supplies ammonia liquid to diesel cycle DF engines, LP AFSS (Low Pressure AFSS) supplies ammonia vapor to Otto cycle DF engines, etc.
Lineup
- We have a lineup of AFSS for engines which have each power output level. We will select the model number of the AFSS module according to the information of the expected engine power, so please consult with us.

About Ammonia Gas Abatement System (AGAS)
- AGAS:Ammonia Gas Abatement System
- AGAS abates excess ammonia gas discharged from ammonia-fueled engines to a concentration that can be released into the atmosphere. To make the system easier to handle, we have adopted an ammonia gas abatement method that uses water, making the system unnecessary for chemicals such as sulfuric acid. We can also make proposals regarding the effective use of low-concentration ammonia water generated from AGAS.
Operations requiring removal of ammonia
- Excess ammonia is assumed to be generated during the onboard operations shown in the table. In particular, emergency fuel changeover is an operation that may suddenly occur during ammonia operation and requires abatement of large amount of ammonia gas instantly. Since the composition of the gas to be treated changes significantly between the purge operation, the water absorption type AGAS is the best solution.

Engineering Services
- Utilizing the experience and know-how cultivated through the construction of liquefied gas carriers, we not only sell AFSS/AGAS packages, but also provide engineering services related to the design and construction of ammonia fueled ships. After the vessel enters service, we will provide after-sales services such as parts supply and engineer dispatch, as well as technical support for gas handling training for the crew of the ammonia-fueled ships and special operations (gas-free before docking, cool-down after leaving dock, etc.) for our customers. We can also propose ammonia fueled ship operation support services tailored to your needs.
