MOL Comfort Containership Incident Update (No.8)
The following is a further update on the incident involving the MOL Comfort containership operated by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) in the Indian Ocean on June 17, 2013.
MOL, the ship inspection organization (Nippon Kaiji Kyokai [ClassNK]) and MHI have collaborated in investigating and seeking to determine the cause of the incident. MHI also has participated in the Committee on Large Container Ship Safety of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT).
The MLIT Committee has now announced its preliminary findings as presented in the Interim Report accessible below.
Through sustained participation on the MLIT Committee, MHI will continue to investigate and seek to determine the cause of this incident at sea.
