Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems Awarded Aichi Labor Bureau Director General’s Award for Excellence by Aichi Labor Bureau (Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare)
Tokyo, July 28, 2023 - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems, Ltd., a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, has won the 2023 Aichi Labor Bureau Director General's Award for Excellence, as part of the Aichi Labor Bureau Director General's Awards for Workplaces, Organizations and Individuals Achieving Excellence in Health and Safety awarded by the Aichi Labor Bureau (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare). Among other factors, MHI Thermal Systems' Biwajima Works (Kiyosu City, Aichi Prefecture) received high marks for its risk assessments, where scientific principles such as kinetic and potential energy are used to identify potential sources of danger and harm in its work areas, after which risks that may occur through human contact are eliminated or mitigated. Serious risks that remain after the implementation of mitigation measures are controlled through comprehensive safety management activities in each work area, including visualization, information sharing and safety measures. The award was presented by Masahiko Shirota, the Director General of the Aichi Labor Bureau, at a ceremony at Hotel Mielparque Nagoya (Higashi-ku, Nagoya) on July 3.
Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and prefectural Labor Bureaus present Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare's Awards and prefectural Labor Bureau Director General's Awards every year to recognize the efforts of workplaces with outstanding health and safety practices that are an example for other workplaces, along with individuals who have made major contributions over a long period of time to improve health and safety in their organizations. The awards also serve as a means to share news about these workplaces' and individuals' accomplishments and increase awareness of health and safety in Japan. The Aichi Labor Bureau Director General's Award is given to workplaces and companies in Aichi Prefecture with outstanding health and safety practices that are an example for other workplaces.
The judges for this award were impressed by the way MHI Thermal Systems' science-based methods for identifying sources of hazards in its risk assessments, along with the training it provides to its personnel to ensure the quality of its risk assessments and the way the Company takes a multilayered approach, including the management of serious risks, so that risk assessments are conducted effectively. Other initiatives receiving high praise were the Company's community safety activities, including health and safety notes and screenings and awards ceremony of safety experience educational videos, which facilitate cooperation between labor and management. The Company also actively collaborates with and supports its business partner companies and publishes information on its health and safety activities.
